Writing a report

Here is some advice about writing a report. Do you think the advice should be 'do' or 'don't'?
Well, I would say that points 1,2,4,6,7,8,10 and 11 should be 'done', whereas the other ones (3,5 and 9) shouldn't be taken into consideration.

Now look at the three plans. Which plan do you think is best? Why?

I think the best structure is B. I think so because you start saying why you are writing the report , which is important; then, in the following paragraphs, you develope the results of the survey and give possible points for making it be a success (recommendations); and finally you summarise with a conclusion paragraph. I don't think plan A would be a good one because that's not the aim of a report. I doubt about plan C, because, although I like points 1,3 and 4, I'm not sure if the second one should be in a report; I mean, I don't exactly know if talking about the main topic of the event which is going to be carried out has to be done (Information about enviromental issues, in this case).

  1. Hi Rodrigo!
I have read your task, and I agree with what you said except for the point 7 of the characteristics of a report, which I think shouldn´t be done.

Now I will talk about what Ruby has asked us to do with a partner, which you have already done:

    - how many recommendations you should make, given the time constraints:
I don´t know exactly how many recommendations I would give. It would depend on how nuch I'll talk about some issues. But I suppose I would try to make recommendations on everything related to the activities planned.

    - whether any suggestions are not useful for the day
As you said on my blog, I agree with the football match not being too useful, and few related with the issue they are trying to approach.

    - what activities could happen at the same time
I also agree with you in this point; cleaning the school and recycling are things that could be done at the same time. And I think that the lunch time is a good moment to bring people from outside the school, so people could share their food.

    - when lectures would be most acceptable and effective
I think that early in the morning, as you said, because if you do it later people may be tired and not pay attention to them.

    - when outside work should be done
After the lecture everything aoutside doors can be done, as people will be willing to help after hearing the lectures.

Discuss the approach to take in the report. Should you use bullet points or text? Where should you include your opinion?
You could use bullet points to describe each activity you are recommending, giving a short explanation saying why you think it would be useful.
Your opinion can be written with the recommendations, as I said, but also should be explained in the conclusion, in which you would summaraze what you think about what you´ve already talked, and why you think all that will be useful.
